Lane knew what he was going to do from an early age. Lane`s interest in acting began when he helped prepare the sets for local theatre productions in Dalton, Georgia. While performing a three-page soliloguy as a sophomore in high school, the audience started cheering enthusiastically. After high school, Lane enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University as a speech and theatre major, also performing professionally in dinner theatre while in college. After graduation, Lane starred in "Funland" for RMC Films, "The Magic of Lassie" with James Stewart and "The Suicide`s Wife" with Angie Dickinson, as well as many theatre productions and musicals. Lane`s career moved into high speed when he portrayed the brooding, misanthropic Evan Whyland on the daytime series "Days of Our Lives". Other television appearances at the time included parts in "The Young and the Restless", "CHIPs" and "Dallas". Lane is one of the original cast in 1984 in "Santa Barbara". Lane took 2 mounths off from "Santa Barbara" each summer to participate in the Georgia Shakespeare Festival, where he starred in the "Taming of the Shrew", "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Twelfth Night" and directed "A Midsummer Night`s Dream". Even while acting in "Santa Barbara", Lane starred in Los Angeles productions of "Macbeth", "Hamlet" and "Cyrano de Bergerac" and directed "The taming of the Shrew". Additionally Lane has appeared in "Dracula", "Ah Wilderness!" and "Inherit the Wind" at the Alley Theatre, "Jumpers" and "Two Gentlemen of Verona" at the Trinity Square Repertory Company, and "Henry V", "As You Like It", and "Julius Caesar" at the Globe Playhouse. To relax Lane enjoys carpentry and finds solace at his cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains, where he can enjoy both fishing and skiing, depending on the season.
